( ) in the Mountain is an artist collective consisting of a group of friends who graduated from Dutch art academies. While facing the reality of our precarious  situations as international emerging artists, they were brought up out of a need for a space that allowed for growth. Our place welcomes what is often omitted, hidden, or swiped away, giving ourselves and others a space for the quiet, for all that often does not make its way to the forefront, as well as an attempt to bring our art practices closer to our daily lives. We were established in August 2022, and are currently based at De Besturing, an artist studio complex in the Hague, the Netherlands.

         

Mina is a visual artist based in the Netherlands and South Korea. Her works revolve around what human values are and when they come into contact with technology, often exploring things that matter, hope for survival and for sustainable futures.

Her recent work, Alexa, They Are the Women I Grew Up With(three-channel video installation, 27min 29sec), brings her background story to life. In the first part, small pieces of photos from the family album are shown, accompanied by a narration of what she saw and felt growing up with these women. In the second part, a girl living with Alexa recognizes the prejudices caused by algorithms and questions Alexa about them.
