About us
( ) in the Mountain is an artist collective consisting of a group of friends who graduated from Dutch art academies. While facing the reality of our precarious situations as international emerging artists, they were brought up out of a need for a space that allowed for growth. Our place welcomes what is often omitted, hidden, or swiped away, giving ourselves and others a space for the quiet, for all that often does not make its way to the forefront, as well as an attempt to bring our art practices closer to our daily lives. We were established in August 2022, and are currently based at De Besturing, an artist studio complex in the Hague, the Netherlands.
Hana Spillerová
I was born in Slovakia, which involved spending a lot of time in nature by rocks in a childhood solitude interacting with what is around with responses from the landscape. These moments kept growing alongside me as I became critical of my environment, however lingering on the understanding of a place from my bodily perspective.
Moving countries, to Brazil and Netherlands, encountering traumas along the way kept giving me more anchors in my body, a need for grounding and a ground which is growing and burning-down, but always there in some form. Besides this, working with my body as a performer for artists performances or a model for drawing classes is a part of knowing something about my body and current environment.
Recent projects: a stream piercing through a breast: 2022: an installation of a torso-like sculpture, rising from the ground intended for a performed ritual. The torso, resembling a tree-bark, receives the milk which is poured through the vessel of a ceramic breast. The milk outflows, and then drips gradually to the last piece, and lands in the torso (which slowly starts an organic process of moulding). This rite is performed by a female performer.
